Black-Handed Spider Monkeys live in groups and are very social. They communicate by hoots and whinnies when they find food. They have specific warning displays. They will bark, throw sticks, and shake tree limbs to look intimidating. They are diurnal and live in trees. They do not interact with other species. Their special survival behavior is sleeping in trees. They do that so predators can't get to them.
Their diet consists of nuts, flower buds, insects, eggs, and grains when they live in the wild. When in captivity, they eat primate chow, lettuce, apples and bananas. They keep the ecosystem balanced by eating insects and their eggs, and fruits.
